What makes one successful? How did ordinary men like Warrant Buffet and Richard Branson become multi-millionaires? There are 5 successful resources that we are given in life and are necessary to attaining success. They are, Professional Intelligence, Health, Financial Intelligence, Support and Entrepreneurship. As such, we can also say that we have all these resources at the palm of our hands. "Rule of Thumb"; an expression used to define the indefinite. The thumb then, represents Professional Intelligence. We all know for a fact that education is highly important valued to excel in today's world. After we have achieved our desired level of academic skills, what's the next step? Professional Intelligence refers to the gap between the academic knowledge we have attained and achieving career ambitions. There are 5 essential forms of motivation that are likened to our guiding force in achieving our life's goal. First, we emerge into the working field, we pick up along the way, experiences and in most cases, realize our dreams. Next, is the power of visualization, which allows us to see ourselves in the near future so that it acts as the light at the end of the tunnel at our various life stages. The third factor would be our value system, which is important in building relationships with our peers as well as our business partners. Thereafter, we would need to do a SWOT analysis which helps us to identify and learn to deal with our strengths and weaknesses, as well as to cease the opportunities which lies ahead of us to use it to our advantage and identify the obstacles which may line our way ahead and if possible, prevent it. Last but not least, we would need to come up with an X-factor. At times, life can be uncanny, and pokes fun at us in ways oblivious to us. For example, point your index finger and you will realize that another 3 fingers are pointing back. Just like our health. We would blame our bosses for work for giving us severe headaches and possibly contributing to the sharp increase in our blood pressure; or the fact that we often complain that we have an excessive pile of work on our hands and it's impossible to find time to exercise. If we are honest with ourselves, we would be able to see how we helped create it, just like the three fingers that points back at us. Our most critical lifeline is our health. Given poor health, our work, family and financials will be jeopardized in more ways than one. Health consists of 2 main bearing aspects, being our mental and physical. Our Mental health constitutes of our belief system, acquired knowledge, our habits of thought and mindfulness. These 4 attributes are the foundation of a solid mental health. When cultivated in a person, it will then lead to a positive mental attitude whereby their habits of thought will determine the outcome of the situation. The knowledge they have attained will be supported by their belief system, which will embed in them a "can do" attitude. Mindfulness on the other hand helps one to be level-headed in making decisions as well as in thoughts, words, and action. A person with a positive mental attitude will then send off positive vibes which is also known as achieving the Law of Attraction. Physical health as we all know is of high importance which, more often than not, we take for granted. We can break physical health down into 5 main components, namely, exercise, our diet, sleep, calorie intake and our lifestyle. (Financial Intelligence) The wedding ring we wear on our finger is a sign of loyalty and companionship. In other words, the ring finger represents Support. We need affection and support from our family, peers, connectors, as well as spiritually. As children, we used to make promises to each other, and we do the "Pinky Swear" by hooking out little fingers together. With this, a friendship is built and the relationship between them grows. The little finger therefore symbolizes Entrepreneurship. Entrepreneur is defined as a person who organizes and manages any enterprise, with considerable initiative and risk. However, when we think about it, entrepreneurship occurs in our everyday life, and in every situation. Entrepreneurship comprises of Adversity Quotient, Social Quotient and Emotional Quotient. Adversity refers to the crisis or changes that we face and how we manage it. Do we sulk and get frustrated when we are faced with difficulties and changes or do we embrace it and make the most of learning from it? When faced with adversities, we enter into a state of shock, followed by denial on the reality of the situation. Thereafter you get frustrated as you feel lost. Unable to grasp hold of the situation, you slump into depression. Having hit rock bottom, you pull yourself together and start experimenting with the choices you have to resolve the situation, and commit yourself to finding a solution to the problem. Lastly, we need to be able to integrate our successful experiment and put it into action. Which is of greater importance to have as a quality in a person? EQ or IQ? Could you imagine a world where everyone has great intelligence but ni EQ? It would be very cold, robotic world wouldn't it? Emotional Quotient is the ability to perceive, assess, and manage the emotions of one's self, and that of others. In other words, it is about how we interact with people and being able to sympathize with people by placing ourselves in their shoes. Or are we one of those snobs that stick our nose so high in the air that we are unable to see the path that we are walking on? Empathy is such an essential emotional tool we need to build relationships with people. It creates this bond between the two parties and eventually, trust is built. When we talk about social quotient, two words pop into our minds: friends and relations. Networking is important especially for the business to business marketplace. This is where they can share experiences that they can learn from each other, and hence, improves the ability for people to advance professionally. From networking, you begin to build rapport, and in some events, friendship is formed. In such instances, one needs to be able to socialize and meet new people with an open mind. |
